3 Kinds of Hurricane Shutters

Even a minor hurricane can cause a lot of problems and damage your house. That means that you want to do everything you can to make sure that your house is protected from the storm. One way to do that is to make sure that you have shutters on your windows. There are several styles of shutters that you can choose to use on your windows. Which one you use depends on where you live, what kind of safety rules your area has, and the aesthetic of your house.

Roll-Down Shutters

These shutters are permanently installed on your house. When they aren't in use, they roll up and are stored in a box over the window. The shutters can be motorized so that you can roll them down from inside your house at the push of a button. Another option is that you can roll them down manually. Even if you get motorized shutters, you should make sure that there is a way that you can roll them up or down manually because you want to make sure that you can use them if the power goes out.

Accordion Shutters

Like the roll-down shutters, these are also permanently installed on your house. Only instead of being stored at the top of your window, they are stored on the side, and they are often folded up. The shutters can be one piece or two pieces, depending on which ones you get. When the storm comes, you just unfold the shutters and fasten them, covering your window. One drawback to these shutters is that if you live in an area with an HOA or a historic neighborhood that has strict rules about what the exterior of your house should look like, these shutters might not be approved because they likely won't fit in with the particular neighborhood aesthetic.

Storm Panel Shutters

These shutters aren't permanently installed on your house, instead, they are something that you have to store somewhere and then place before the storm hits. Generally, you will have some kind of permanent fastener installed on your house so that you can put the panels up more easily. However, it may take more than one person for you to install these shutters.

You want to do what you can to make sure that your house is protected if a hurricane hits. One way to do that is to make sure that you have shutters on all your windows. You can find many styles to choose from. Keep these tips in mind when looking for hurricane shutters for your home.
